New Delhi: The news of late Russian wrestler Besik Kudukhov, who had
won the silver medal in the 60kg category in the 2012 London Olympics, testing
positive for a banned substance in a retesting of his sample this year had
enthused the Indian wrestling fraternity. Media reports had suggested that
Yogeshwar Dutt, who won the bronze in
60kg, was in for a medal upgrade.
On Monday, the Russian Wrestling Federation possibly dashed the hopes by claiming that the International Olympic Committee had dropped the investigation against Kudukhov, who died in a car crash in 2013.
Kudukhov was found to be positive for the steroid turinabol and the case was passed to an IOC disciplinary commission, which ended its investigation last week with no action taken, the Russian federation said. The IOC, which has not acknowledged any positive test by Kudukhov, did not make any official statement.
A senior Wrestling Federation of India
official confirmed that they had not received any official communication
in this matter recently.
"We had received only one communication so far that Kudukhov had tested positive and Yogeshwar’s samples from 2012 would be tested before reaching any decision. But this was before the Rio Olympics. Post that there has been no communication in this regard," the official said.
